Whilst rattan, cane and wicker have traditionally been used to furnish conservatories, you can also go for more modern styles and materials of furniture in your conservatory as well. There is no reason why you should not furnish your conservatory just as you would any other room in your home - using a variety of materials, fabrics and textures to creat an interesting and comfortable extra living space.

Of course, how you furnish your conservatory will depend on how you use it. A conservatory as a dining room? Home office conservatory? Conservatory as a family space? Sitting room conservatory?

Don't forget colour schemes too when choosing the furnishing theme for your conservatory as this is a very important consideration, more so than in any other room in your home, due to the way that the atmosphere and ambience may be partly determined by the orientation of the conservatory. So, South-facing sunny conservatories often benefit from cool colours such as blues and greens, whilst cooler North or East-facing conservatories look great with warm, vibrant shades to create a cosy feel.

It's also important to remember that a conservatory is often an extension of the adjoining room, so consider using a similar style of furnishings to make the rooms flow together and further enhance the feeling of space within your home - let your furnishings create a sense of continuity.

The top two images on the left show a conservatory furnished in a contemporary way using vibrant red as the accent colour. This creates a conservatory living room that feels young and energetic.

The bottom two images show a conservatory that is furnished using a palette of soft neutral tones that complement each other to create a calming and relaxing atmosphere.
